My third Illustrator drawing - I wasn't expecting this to be such a challenge. The tartan skirt proved extremely difficult. I didn't want to simply mesh the fabric as it appeared in the photo (far too much work). Instead a wanted to create a square patch that I would repeat and then distort. But using simple shapes to make the tartan fabric didn't distort well. So I created a gradient mesh of a square that I repeated and then distorted. This sort of distortion in Illustrator isn't very accurate so it limited how accurately I could reproduce the folds of fabric from the photo.
EDIT: Added a white border. I think it makes a big difference. And added a little extra detail to the top of the stocking since the lack of detail was very noticeable against the white border.
Damn, even with that explanation I don't know how you did that tartan. I'd love to see you make a mini-tute using a patch of tartan, irrespective of the canvas it is draped over, lovely as it is.
very well done.
You can read about it here though - [link] (I'm drworm).
